Passports, visas, health, and minors

Validity & blank pages
Most destinations require a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date, with 2–4 blank pages for entry stamps.
- 6-month validity rule applies in most of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East
- Schengen zone requires 3 months beyond intended stay
- Two blank facing pages recommended for visa-on-arrival stamps
- Emergency passports are not accepted for e-Visa programs
Visa types & application windows
Visa requirements vary by passport, purpose, and duration. Always confirm with the destination country's official source.
- e-Visa programs: India, Turkey, Kenya, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Vietnam
- Visa-free: 90-day Schengen for most Western passports
- Visa-on-arrival: 30+ countries including Uganda, Madagascar, Maldives
- Apply 4–6 weeks ahead for sticker visas via consulates
Vaccinations & insurance
Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory for entry into many African and South American countries. Travel insurance is strongly recommended for all trips.
- Yellow fever certificate required for entry into 34 countries
- WHO International Certificate of Vaccination (ICV) must be presented
- Hepatitis A/B, typhoid, and meningitis recommended for sub-Saharan Africa
- Comprehensive travel insurance with medical evacuation strongly advised
Traveling with children
Many countries require additional documentation for minors traveling with one parent or without either parent.
- Notarized parental consent letter for solo-parent travel
- Original birth certificate for visa-on-arrival in South Africa
- Unaccompanied minor service required by most airlines under 12
- Custody documentation for separated parents
